Well, I'm not sure what to say except that this place was quite a let down. For a start it rained for the two/three days we were there. We thought that we would try to make the most of it and hope the rain would let off. It did for a couple of hours so we went to walk across the wet beach. The beach was pretty nice but I'm going to say only because it had rained and there was no one on it. The sun beds (first we had seen for a month) were two deep and the area around had lots of high rise hotels and it looked a little like Benedorm if I'm completely honest. On the street we stayed on there were a number of ex-pat pubs with bulldogs painted everywhere and there were also numerous working girls. There were also a lot of German men with Thai brides between 10-40 years younger than them. Now I don't want to generalise because we only stayed on one street and we only went to one part of Phuket, Hat Karon. However, a lot of people have said that they had similar experiences and felt the same about Phuket and they travelled to different parts.
It was quite a disapointing end to the amazing month that we had but at least we were able to leave the country without being too disapointed about going. We went shopping to cheer ourselves up and Barry watched the football, so we were both happy. On a more positive note, we had a great couple of meals...another really hot Masaman curry and a sweet and sour chicken dish.
Thailand has been a great experience. There is so much to see and do and we saw and did a lot of it. There have been times where I have surprised myself with the things I have done and tolerated. I feel that I have overcome some fears and possibly gained a couple more (mainly bats, these things were evil and constantly swooped at us in Phi Phi). I have snorkelled, kayaked, riden a speed boat, ridden an elephant, learnt some Thai (mainly thank you and hello but hey who's counting), had a Thai massage and eaten mostly Thai food for the entire month. I have also proved that I can live out of a back pack with minimal clothes and have not used straighteners now or worn make up for this time either (except mascara but a girls gotta have some home comforts). I have learnt that I shouldn't under estimate myself so much..you can do anything you want to do. The only person stopping you is yourself.
