Kuala Lumpur in 24 hours, whistle stop tour of the main attractions and dinner in the red light distict of Malaysia's capital city. The first thing that struck you about Malaysia was the incredible height of all of the buildings, followed by the strength of the heat as we were getting closer to the equator. I really enjoyed our tme here. It was mainly to do with what an interesting city it is but also a little to do with the fact that we got upgraded to a suite when we got to our hotel. Here we are backpacking around the world and we stop off after paying 30GBP for a room that was about the size of the bottom floor of Barry's house. It was amazing, three rooms with several seating areas and a bar with complimentary food and drinks. We also had our own dressing gowns and slippers which was pretty cool!
Our hotel was in the shadow of the amazing Petrona Twin Towers, the highest twin towers in the world. They were the kind of height that if you looked up you would go dizzy and nearly fall over when you look back down. After a night of walking around the town and looking at the twin towers and the KL Tower, we went for dinner in what can only be described as a house for ladies of the night. We only realised this when we had ordered and although nit was quite creepy, it gave us a bit of a laugh at a time when we were really knackered and getting a little grumpy and sticky in the heat.
The following day we went for a strooll to get our tickets to climb the twin towers. We got our ticket that told you to come back at a certain time. It turns out that you can't climb to the top of the building and you can only go the the sky bridge. We were a little disapointed but looking forward to it. While we waited for our ticket, we went to the KL Tower and went up to the viewing area. After breaking our necks trying to look up at it we got in the lift to go up and my ears popped several times on the way up. I started to get a little nervous as we were approaching where we were meant to get out and thought it might be a bit oo high and scary but once we got out of the lift we walked over to the window and it was crazy how high we were. It was a little hazy so we couldn't see as far as you normally can but the view was great. We slowly made our way round to the twin towers and used the binoculars to have a close look at them. There were window cleaner at the top floor of the building! Crazy people on a rickety looking platform hanging from a crane at the top! No thanks!
The twin towers were not too scary climbing after this as it was only half the height. It was a bit scary looking at the structure holding the bridge up though but the view made you forget about that. They truely are amazing buildings and they make the skyline outstanding. It made Canary Wharf look like one of those miniture models you see in Chesington!
Using the tube in Malaysia was crazy, we must have got lost a million times, now one of our trademarks...you find a lot more things that way anyway! It was a great capital and we really enjoyed our stay here and were glad that we came.
