Week 10- Laos (Vientiane) Day 6
Today we got the bus from Vang Veing to Vientiane, this was Katy's last place with us :-(. We were up early and ready for the bus waaaay before it arrived, standard Asia they are always late. Nevertheless we had luck with this bus, it was really empty! It wasn't a bad drive at all and I think we all had a bit of a doze. It was cool to drive through the city and watch out the windows! Once we arrived at the bus stop we hopped straight in a tuk tuk and went to our hotel. We were all very excited for a bit of luxury! Katy was treating us for her last night.
We were greeted with a man holding a tray of drinks.. It was rice ice tea and none of were very keen, although, we didn't want to look rude by not drinking it. We checked in and the men went rushing upstairs with our bags, the room was lovely and very spacious. We enjoyed the complimentary fruit in the room and headed straight down to the pool.
We were the only ones there (I think we were the only ones in the whole hotel- it's new). The staff had laid out 3 sun beds for us and we had pool towels twisted into different shapes! All very fancy! We spent the day chilling out getting in and out the pool while the staff ran around after us like were were princesses! They brought us out glasses of ice water and every time we finished someone would could running out to top it up again! We ordered some snack foods to keep us going to dinner. It was a lovely day with Katy relaxing by the pool after what seems to have been a very jam packed 3 weeks in Chiang Mai and Laos.
Once the sun went down we went inside to have showers and head out for Katy's last super! We decided to go down to the river front and that is also where the night market is held. The hotel staff dropped us down to the riverside for free, the man even came to just open the door for us (our own chauffeur service). They had recommended a restaurant so we had a little look around the market and then headed to the restaurant.
We had to go up a lot of stairs but it was definitely worth it, the restaurant overlooked the river and market which was really pretty with the lights. Myself and Katy had a mojito to celebrate her last night. Gemma had a pizza, Katy had... And I had my favourite sausage and mash! Although, there was a bit of confusion because it was supposed to come with peas yet they gave me salad. When we asked about it they were very confused they clearly had their translation wrong in the menu but after about 4 staff approaching attempting to understand, a waiter appeared with a bowl of baked beans! It was very entertaining! At least they tried!
