Week 10- Laos (Vang Veing) Day 5
We had a chilled day today. We had a lay in then went to get breakfast in town before getting a tuk tuk to take us to the blue lagoon. The journey there was about 7km and it was a very bumpy ride, over a bridge that crossed the river and down several dirt tracks through a village. But the lagoon was worth it! It was another scorcher today so jumping in to the freezing waters of the lagoon felt good! We watched several people jumping into the lagoon off of a tree which had 2 places to jump from (one was higher than the other). Charlotte had a go but was too scared to go from the very high one. There was also a rope swing, it was funny watching people fall in from it! We were surrounded by fish for some of it thankfully they were quite scared of us so they stayed away, I will probably be over my fish phobia by the time I get home!
After a dip we decided to head up to the Caves, little did we know that the walk up there was more like a climb! There were rock 'steps' but at some points we were practically rock climbing and using bamboo rails to help us up. The cave was huge and you can actually go through the cave using a trail, there are arrows to show you the way to walk. Inside the caves was slippery and we were only in our flip flops so we only went into the first but of the caves. Charlotte and Katy went further in to the middle of the first bit where there was a sleeping Buddha and they found the entrance to go into the next bit of the caves, they said it was very small and Katy said she wasn't too sure she would have been able to go in any further anyway! Apparently lots of people get lost in the caves and they are pitch black! The climb down was a little scary at times, we took our shoes off and sat in our bums for the most of it! At the bottom we had another dip to get all the dirt off us then we got our sun worshipping on! It was super hot so I was in and out of the lagoon. Had a very chilled afternoon, with some entertainment provided by a very drunk girl!
Late afternoon we headed back to our guesthouse, by the time we got back we was absolutely filthy and couldn't wait to get into the shower. I had found a nice restaurant on trip advisor called AMD which was near the river so we went to try and find that. We found it quite easily and we saw a few people that we had met at the lagoon earlier on! The food was really nice so we were very happy with our find. On the way back to the guesthouse, we got a magnum gold for dessert and Charlotte got a waterproof bag :)
