Week 4- Cambodia (Sihanoukville) Day 6
It was our last day in Sihanoukville today before heading to Vietnam on the night bus tonight. We are not looking forward to our 15 hour journey to say the least! Cambodia has been a blast and we had absolutely loved it. Our favourite place so far, although, it has flown by so quickly!
We decided to try and get as much sleep in before our night bus so we had a lay in and didn't get up until about 11am. We paid extra to check out at 7pm so we could shower etc before getting on the bus! We headed down to the local beach- Serendipity, this isn't as nice as Otress but we still couldn't exactly complain. We had lunch on our sun loungers- I had vegetable fried rice! We lazed about and went for paddles in the sea. However, the water wasn't very clear so we were a bit scared what might be under our feet!
We had an early dinner at a restaurant called New Sea View Villa. They had an offer two courses for $5 so obviously we jumped at the opportunity. We love our food! Gemma had swordfish to start and I had spinach gratin which were both really nice. We then both had mango chicken with potatoes and ratatouille! It was so good to have some different to curry or rice! We wanted to splash out and get a pudding (they had banoffee pie!!) however, we were pushed for time. We still needed to get back, pack and shower within an hour.
We have become absolute pros at packing so we got this done really quickly. It felt amazing to freshen up and have a shower before our mammoth journey ahead of us! We checked out and sat waiting for our bus pick up. It was supposed to be there by 7pm and at 7.20 it still hadn't arrived so we started to get a bit anxious (our transfer the day before had forgotten about us)! So we decided to make our way to Ana Travel by tuk tuk as this is where the bus was departing from. As we arrived there was a bus about to leave, they told us to wait as the next bus was for HCMC. After about 15 minutes later Gemma decided to go and double check with the travel agents... Luckily she did because the bus wasn't coming there at all! It all got a bit stressful and very confusing but in the end a man from the travel agents took us in his car to the bus.
Obviously in standard Asia ways the bus was late departing! To add to all of this I also managed to rip a massive hole in my new trousers I got from the market :-( Once we got on the bus it was very small and we had to literally jump onto our seat because we were the top bunk.. You can imagine what this did to my trousers!! However, after a bumpy and late start we set off on our journey. We managed to get comfy(ish) and eventually fell asleep despite the Cambodians shouting at one another at the front of the bus!
We were both fast asleep when we arrived into Phnom Penh (we needed to change buses) and all of the sudden we were woken up by a Cambodian bellowing for us to get off the bus! This was a bit of a rude awakening and we were very disorientated! I was told the bus in front of us was the bus for HCMC and as I approached it it drove away.. For a couple of seconds I thought Gemma was on it and I had been left behind! Thankfully she was behind me and this wasn't actually our bus! We had to change tickets at the office and then boarded our second bus.. This was seemed slightly better than the first one! Yet again it was really late leaving so we were sat about for over an hour! We didn't think we would fall back to sleep but luckily we did drift off until our next rude awakening at 6am!
