Week 4- Cambodia (Sihanoukville) Day 4
So we had a well deserved lay in this morning. We have had quite a few early starts and nights with broken sleep. We decided to try Otress beach today it's a bit further along to Serendipity beach. We walked out the hostel and a tuk tuk man literally came running at us to offer us a lift. We agreed $4 one way, however, an old English man walking past starting shouting it was too much and should only be $2. The day before we had been ripped off by a tuk tuk going to our hostel so we decided to believe the old man. The tuk tuk driver got very angry so we said it was fine he could just find a different job (there was about 5 other tuk tuks hanging around for jobs). We got out the tuk tuk and went into the hostel reception. They said it should actually cost 6/7 dollars, we walked out and the man was still there and we agreed on $3... At one point we thought he might be taking us the completely wrong direction to kill us off but luckily we made it to the beach.
Otress beach was a lot more beautiful than Serendipity. The water was much clearer and it was really peaceful. There weren't many people about at all. We had some food and completely chilled out. We spent quite a bit of the day talking to a couple on the sun beds next to us who were travelling for 9 months. We picked up a few more recommendations which is always good :-) The sea was SO hot it was like walking into a bath, you had to swim quite far out before it cooled down. At lunchtime there was also a thunderstorm for about half an hour. We sat in the sea while it rained listening to the thunder, this was pretty cool.
We decided to head back to Serendpity because we needed to collect our visas from the travel agents... Hopefully with a Vietnam visa! To our relieve they were completely fine and we had another visa to add to the fast growing collection! We went back to the hostel and freshened up before going out for dinner. We went to a restaurant on the beach close by to the one from the first night. I had a coconut curry which was amazing and Gemma tried Luk Lak- this wasn't one of her favourites! The whole area kept having a power cut so every so often the whole beach was pitch black- this was rather entertaining!
