I was thinking the other day that there might be a few people reading this that don't actually know what I am doing this year... So here is the background to how I got where I am right now.
At the end of November 2011 I moved from Sydney to Perth to take on a new role as a Project Engineer on a BHP Construction site. The construction site is near the town of Newman in the pilbara.
After a few months working out of Perth I am now based on site.
I am working on a FIFO (Fly In Fly Out) roster which is 3 Weeks work then 1 Week holiday.
I was originally contracted to fly back to Sydney for my week of every month, however GHD are allowing me to fly into any airport in the country instead of flying into Sydney. So I have bought an old landcruiser and am driving that around the country.
I fly into one city, drive along to the next airport where I leave my car for 3 weeks while I am back at work and then I fly back into that airport and continue on my merry way.
Work:
I am working as a project engineer on the BHP Jimblebar Mine expansion which is part of a $2 Billion BHP expansion project.
My main role within the project is to manage the contractor who is building an Ammonium Nitrate Storage Facility (Where they store the explosive that they use to mine with).
