Friday 30th March:
Got the car wired up with two new cigarette lighter plugs for the Fridge and the Inverter.
Had a chat with the Sparky about getting a second battery system setup and he said It would cost around $800 - $1,000 due to the Aircon line going through where the battery would go so that would have to be moved. I might look into doing it myself later on down the track but I will see if I need it or not. I already have the second battery if my first battery dies one me so I'm not particularly worried.
Went for a surf while the car was getting wired up… Got a bit sunburnt on my feet, had a small ding in the bottom of my board from someone else's fin hitting it, I didn't realise until I got home.
Didn't end up going to the GHD cruise as I didn't get home until about 5:15 (and the boat left at 5:20). Got a voice message from Sean to see how I got on and to say that he and Alison wouldn't be coming to Lancelin on Sat as they had a dinner with her Boss planned.
Saturday 31st March:
Woke up around 10am. Took my time organising myself around the apartment. Left the house around 1pm. Headed to Bunnings and woollies to pick up the last of my supplies (Minus a foldable chair… which didn't exist at bunnings…) .
Made it up to Lancelin around 5pm parked up next to the main beach and took the new camera for a walk along the beach killing time until sunset where I could test the new camera out.
Started chatting to a few guys who were in a brand new Jeep that the fuel pump had just conked out on. They were really nice and the girls they were with invited me back to their mates house for a costume party. Half the group were heading up to Coral Bay for a week and the other half just came up to Lancelin for the weekend. A random guy towed the Jeep back to the service station. It was pretty funny watching a brand new jeep get towed along by a beat up old Datsun 4wd.
Went around to their mates house and had a BBQ we played a drinking game of Jenga (A bit like Kings with a different message on each block of Jenga that you have to do).
Met a girl from BHP who works on the Jimblebar project in HR.
Sunday 1st April:
Woke up in a damp bed… I walked through the sprinklers to get back to the car… Smart move.
Most of the guys had already headed north to Coral Bay already.
Chatted with those left behind for a bit. One car left and the rest of us went to the Bakery (Average Pie). We headed out to the sand dunes behind Lancelin so Jay could have a ride on his Bike. Took Martha through a sandy bit to get out to the dunes and got bogged… I forgot to lock the hub caps so I was still in 2wd. Got out fine once the hub caps were locked… at least I know 4wd works now. Sat around chatting to the two girls (Kit and ?) while Jay was out riding in the dunes. Had a quick ride on his bike…. Powerful machine and very hard to control in the sand dunes. Good fun though.
They headed off to Perth and I headed to Back beach (where some bogan kid told me the best surf was on Sat arvo). I got about 30m onto the tarmac and realised I was still in 4wd… Tried to get the lever back into 2wd and it wouldn't budge… tried the reversing trick they taught us in the RAC 4wd course and it slipped in fine… lucky I didn't get very far or it could have been trouble.
Went for a long walk/jog up the beach took me about 2 hours to get up and back. Had a nap in the car when I got back. Drove back to the first beach where I pulled out the bed and started cutting a hole in the wood for the fridge. Managed to snap my only hacksaw blade so I ended up drilling a line of holes and snapping the MDF. Drove around to the back of the bakery where Sean had said there was an unwritted rule that you are allowed to camp there. Expected to see at least on other camper but there wasn't any so hopefully I don't get moved on in the middle of the night.
Which leads me to now where I am sitting in the local Pizza shop having dinner and charging my laptop and phone (which died yesterday and I haven't recharged until now.
