first up this morning we have a helicopter ride over the grand canyon.... it took 25 min... I got seated in between two random old dudes from czech republic. The view was fantastic! got some pretty good pics I think... I got video too so yup... Basically you just go over ten tonne of forest then suddenly you are over the grand canyon... after that I grabbed some breakfast... In the afternoon i went on a 2hr guided bike ride around the canyon... It was mostly
Down hill so it was pretty cruisy. we also got to smell a ponderosa tree... Which to me smells like Shea butter... Apparently it pretty much tastes like s*** though so that's disappointing. After the bike ride I walked about 3 miles to Hopi point to catch the sunset over the Canyon which of course was amazing. Got some pretty awesome pics and some video. it was good to do some exercise instead of sitting on a bus
So yesterday's effort was pretty awesome!! Uhhhh so fun facts for today.... The grand canyon started off as mountains.... They were then all covered by ocean.....which kinda flattened out the mountains.... the ocean then disappeared and layers gradually built up causing the different colours and the height.... The earth then cracked... Rivers then found these cracks causing the different bits and pieces.... And the grand canyon Is what you are left with... This all happened before the dinosaurs..... another fun fact is that every five to seven years the forest would catch alight from lightning.... This would then clear out all the small shrubs and weeds ensuring that the forest didn't become over crowded... The big trees would be fine because it happened so often it would kinda just smolder away... Basically the forest self cleaned... Until humans came along and decided that fire was bad and tried to put the fires out as soon as they happened... So now...if an area does catch on fire.. There is so many years worth of shrubs and dead wood and crap that it goes straight up and is massively devastating... Another example where the humans just mess s*** up.
So that's all my facts for today I think.
Tomorrow is VEGAS with a stop at route 66 and the Hoover dam
