Man City u16 v Cestria Galaxy u16.....
Today saw the team head down to Chorlton, Manchester to play Man City u16 in the semis of the cup. Although in our previous 2 games we ran out 8-1 and 6-0 winners it has to be said, weirdly enough, they were 2 tough games at times, especially the 6-0 game which flattered us a little.
It has to be said the pitch wasn't up to much with lumps of turf everywhere and a little cut up from a match earlier so a passing game was going to be hard for both teams.
We kicked off and soon got into our stride with some decent football, however City went ahead with a great strike after we failed to clear our lines. Cestria battled back with some neat passing moves and it was from one of these that we levelled after courageous work from Megan Beel enabling Zoe Ness to level. Cestria added a second after a great turn and through ball from Lauren Briggs to Beth Hepple who finished expertly.
HT Cestria 2-1 Man City
The second half was a great battle with some meaty, mostly fair, challenges from both sides. The third goal was proving tough to come by and it was Man City who scored instead, levelling the game at 2-2. Cestria continued to plug away but could not get the goal they needed with Amy Williams in the Cestria goal largely untroubled.
FT Cestria 2-2 Man City
Extra time started and the girls hard work in training was paying off. Man City were rotating girls every few minutes, partly for fresh legs, and partly to disrupt our rhythm. The first half came and went and we were into the 2nd half when Zoe Ness got the goal her gut busting display deserved. A great run and finish. Jess White added the 4th late on.
Great game and performance from both teams worthy of the final itself.
