Kanchanaberi, just west of Bangkok, Drew me here for one reason, Erawan national park and its waterfalls. It was suggested to me within the first month of leaving Canada and I could not pass it up. It's a seven tiered waterfall, that you can swim in at all levels. Enjoying one, then hiking through the jungle to get to the next. It was a bit crowded but with all the different pools and natural slides, there was lots of room for everyone to get in the fun. Apparently there was some treks and caves there too, but I didn't bother to leave the water. The rest of the time in Kachanaberi I got very close to my hammock and just relaxed in the garden by the river Kwai, checked out the JEATH museum ( a museum about the Thai- Burma railway that was built under supervision of the Japanese) and wondered around the war cemetery where almost 7000 prisoners of war were buried. Mostly British, Australian and Dutch, saw a few Canadian flags too. Wandering the cemetery was not disrespectful ( if thats what your thinking) as many come to pay respect and read the short heart warming farewell quotes written in the stones for their loved ones. Very touching. It was a great town to hang out in after my stay in Bangkok and waiting for the chaos of Songkran to arrive. There was a few more things to do there (hell fire pass, ride the train, etc) but like I said the hammock got the best of me... and I enjoyed it.
