Day 12 of our European Adventure
Today we arrived in Naples a bit later than anticipated so our excursion began about a 1/2 hour late! We boarded the bus & enjoyed a very scenic drive to Salerno! From there we got on a smaller boat & saw the incredible scenery of the Amalfi coast! We stopped in Amalfi for a short tour & some shopping time! They were celebrating the miracle of st. Andrew so the bells were ringing & there were some fireworks booms as we arrived! We enjoyed some gelato as we investigated the town! It reminded me of Venice with its little streets & alley ways lined with shops! After an hour of shopping we again boarded the boat to ride back to Salerno to get on the bus to go to Pompei! When we arrived there we were served a delicious lunch! Then we went on a tour of a cameo factory & saw how they made the cameos from seashells! Finally we began our tour of pompei! It was super hot & our guide went very quickly so it was very difficult to get a true understanding of the incredible tragedy that happened there when Mt. Vesuvius blew up! It still was amazing to see how big the city was before this terrible disaster! We were really tired when we got back so we had dinner with Rob & Carol & then had devotions & went to bed!
James here - the beauty of the coast from the boat was awesome there were a few clouds in the sky that created some beautiful shadows on the mountain. The visit to Pompeii was so hot it felt like the volcano had just erupted again. Naples is a very busy port and it was neat to see some of those HUGE cargo ships loaded with containers. At the end of that day we were so tired we had supper then devotions than right to sleep. Love Ya! P.s. Finding a wifi spot is sometimes tricky so we will publish this as soon as we can.
