Holi!!
A very festive hello to all!!!
It was xmas eve and we dashed to get our coach to Hervey Bay. It was odd spending xmas eve on a coach but it was packed with backpackers or aussie orphans a we called ourselves. The coach drivers had santa hats on & there was a really good atmosphere plus it was boiling which was sooo weird! At a various stops the cafes were playing xmas music & everyone was very festive as we travelled through, its deffo a xmas eve I won't forget!
On Christmas morning we made it to Frasier Island, the largest sand island in the world & it really is massive! Our ranger Graham was a typical aussie, sooo funny & sooo lovely, he actually reminded me of Steve Irwin! He made us wear name tags & ran a competition for the most Christmassy name tag, Jo won it so we got a bottle of vino!!
Frasier Island was awesome but because we had a brilliant group of people! In reality we had to walk so much in rainforests, sand dunes (bloody hard!) the weather wasn't great we had really early starts on all 3 days, we were covered in sand the whole time it could have been crap but we had such a laugh! On xmas night we ate pasta or pizza (not very xmassy) we got drunk at the only bar on the island, well only backpacker bar, Cool Dingo & just danced the night away, obviously suffered massively the next day, plus its a bumpy ride on Frasier, the roads are like rollercoasters!
We went canooing as well, well I say went, I teamed up with tracey (a lovely scottish girl) & Jo, the boys were being very sexist & sceptical about our canooing abilities, Ive done it before although I did tip in a sea full of jellyfish-it was ith Nat in western australia!!! But yeah I was confident! It was embarrassing, all you could hear were girly screams as we nearly tipped about 8 times and did not manageto advance at all, Im sure we were sabbotaged as its almost impossible not to move at all, anyway thats another unsucessful canooing expedition under my belt, nedless to say the boys were very smug, but one did tip in the freezing cold water so justice provailed in the end hahaha!!
The lakes were gorgeous but I only swam once as I almost froze my arse off. On the day we left the whole place got evacuated because there was a cyclone nearby, I hear its still pretty bad even now!
Even better though all my mates from Frasier were heading to Brisbane & then Sydney for New Year so we all made plans to go out on the lash properly once back in civilisation. All in all it was a very fun & interesting xmas, sooo different to anything Ive ever done & will ever do im sure, makes a nice change from sitting & watching xmas eastenders thats for sure!! Also everyone's in the same boat in terms of being away from home & stuff so as much I missed my mum it wasn't bad, plus I miss my mum all the time so xmas doesn't make any difference!
Lots of love
