Sydney, what can I say the longer you are here the better it gets, until you don't have a job and you realise that you don't have much money left... Matters not the Sydney festival and now the Chinese New year have managed to provide Jill, my flat mates and myself endless amounts of entertainment!
The main attraction of the Sydney festival was of course, for those at uni who saw and met him Reggie Watts, and I did managed to bump into him in the park (Not hunt him down or stalk him, Jill can vouch) I did bump into him and he remembered me. Unfortunately he did not offer jill and I free tickets, boo reggie, so we had to get up at the ungodly hour of 4.30am to join the queue to get tickets for the evening. It was well worth it and the performance was hilarious! Roz was in hysterics! As of course we wanted him to see that we had made the effort to come, we sat near the front and as he was leaving stage gave Jill and I a high five! Very cool, well we thought so!
We have been hitting the beach a lot, as the weather over here is amazing, I am sad i am missing what looks like amazing snow back home, but I am sure there will be more next year, global warming etc. Tan is improving, as New Zealand is less than two weeks away and set to be much cooler. Jill and i plan to do as many free things as possible, and will be exploring some different beaches over the next 10day. So far coogee is my favourite, may be due to the awesome Beer garden but still great beach! Will give list of the favourite when i have done some more. So since writing this I have been to Double bay and Shark beach, no sharks there though. All really lovely. Have met some interesting characters at the beach, a south African who is going to take me diving in the River Thames, a little different, but could be quite cool.
Jill and I have been out a lot, with help from a few people, we have a list of places to visit and a lot of bars that are a must do... Jill, Roz and I have hit the town in style last weekend and after maybe some would say one too many glasses of wine danced the night away. with some of these bars being in Kings cross, the red light area, it was rather an interesting walk home, with the women of the night lining the streets.
As I said above it is the Chinese New Year, and Sydney celebrate in style. We had a picnic in the park and then went to a Twilight Parade, with loads of dancers and floats and finally watched fireworks in Darling Harbour. It was such a great atmosphere. There have been lots of other cool things going on in the city. Last weekend we saw Dragon Boat racing, I had no idea how big it was, people of all ages taking part, it was actually really exciting.
Since I wrote the above, we have had a few eventful evenings out. With recommendation from Annie, we went to the Opera Bar. I had a couple of Bridget Jones moments, dropping everything out of my handbag at the bar, then feeling like a total idiot in front of the people who helped me pick everything up, bought two glasses of wine instead of one, don't remember much more of the night, so going back for my leaving drinks at the end of the week so I can remember. Had a bbq on Bondi beach yesterday, for a guy in my flats birthday, then another night out, I can't handle it like the young ones, and am now staying in until Thursday!
Next blog from New Zealand I can't wait! x
