Sydney, I have found another city I love! I knew it as soon as we drove over the harbour bridge saw the opera house and the sky line, this place is awesome! The people are lovely, men attractive, and the general vibe is great! To start with it was just Jill Alex and myself and we had found a place to stay in Glebe, just outside of the city. A sunny, quiet village sort of place, with parks and a tram to get into the city, a great start to the city living. The first job of the day was to go to the doctors however, as I still had my cast on and quite frankly had had enough of it! Jill drew the short straw and came with me.
The doctor was, like most of the doctors i have dealt with so far in Australia, a little different. When i explained my circumstances and he had looked up in a book, yes that's right in a book, to find out what to do with my leg he then said there was not much he could do. I would need to wait until the new year for an appointment with a specialist. This is where being my mothers daughter came in rather useful, I nearly burst into tears, for some reason men can find this uncomfortable and the doctor managed to pull his finger out and come up with a solution! I had an appointment with a sports unit in the olympic park in a few days time, where they would fit me with a boot, better than what i had.
Over the few days, until the exciting removal of the cast, revealing my unshaved and tan less leg, we explored the city. We went up to the botanical gardens and had a picnic, with a bottle of wine, then decided to explore the rocks, the old part of the city. This turned into another bottle of wine, we then found a bar by circular Quays, maybe 3 bottles later, 2 city guys joined our group, bring shots of baby guinness (really great shooter, Elissa would love it) and a massive hang over the next morning! Oops... a lot of fun and just confirmed how much I love this city.
As I said before we started in Glebe just out of the city, but when Laura and Danny arrived we moved to an amazing flat in Darling Harbour, blowing any budget we had, for the two weeks over Christmas and New Year. The apartment is lovely, a real treat for the holidays and made not being at home not so bad. The days leading up to Christmas were spent exploring different parts of the city and preparing for christmas day. I was lucky enough to have a friend from back home coming out for the holidays and had lunch with her family! Thank you Louise again! Also had dinner and drinks with a guy I met in Vietnam, he showed me some bars and fun places to go out, which was a bit of a treat!
Christmas eve was fast approaching and we had all agreed to have a big dinner the night before. After lots of shopping dramas, we got all of the ingredients, can you believe they don't have bread sauce over here?!, and prepared our feast! After the huge meal, we thought it best to celebrate with a few drinks and hit the town. We wanted to see the christmas carols as there is nothing festive about being in a hot country, but it was a big let down so we had some bubbly! Still peeved about the lack of christmas spirit we found a bar, not going to say which one, that played christmas classics and we danced the night away!
Christmas morning came a little too quickly, we had coffee for our heads, bubble and squeak for tummies and opened our secret santa presents, all very good no tears! We made our way over to Dan and Jo's for a bbq and champagne and then got the bus to Bondi Beach! it was awesome, everyone was on top form and it was a lovely day, drinking singing and silly games! It was a very weird Christmas as it didn't feel like it at all, but I wouldn't have changed a thing! Miss everyone from home though and those we spoke to made the day! Happy Christmas! Hope you were all good this year! Part 2 after new years!
