A quick Singapore Sling!
Two long flights later and I have arrived at my first Asian destination: Singapore! My two days here were rather short but here are my highlights.
Firstly my hostel. Happy Snail Hostel is just south of China town and is a incredibly welcoming and cosy place. As soon as I arrived I had a cup of green tea in my hand and had already made a friend to go to the zoo with :). Despite it's small size, it's somewhere you will definitely make friends. There is an endless supply of free bread, jam, Nutella and peanut butter too so it really does feel like a home from home. Plus the guy who runs it, Mike, is a legend!
Another highlight was definitely the zoo in the north of the city. A bit of a mission to get to but a fairly cheap route. I took the mrt (metro) then the 138 bus. Entry into the zoo is around $33 however Mike sells it to you for $25. But it is well worth it because the park is huge and most of the animals are cage less... But don't worry, it's complete safe. I had a cute little monkey following me around at one point!
Out of all the districts around the city, China town was the most interesting for me. However for anyone wanting to shop, orchard road is a must. For even more luxury the Marina Bay Sands hotel has specular views and an incredible pool at the top! To use the pool you'll need to book a room. However at $600 a night I think I'll pass. However to see the view you have two options: 1. Pay $30 for a ticket to the viewing deck or 2. Pay $30 for a drink at the skybar. You can guess which one I went for! So I finished off my trip with a Singapore Sling looking out across the city :). Just like the drink my time in Singapore was short and sweet!
