The skies cleared and it was going to be a perfect day to get to know Elvis and the city he called home. We purchased tickets last night for a tour of Graceland at 9:30am. You can spend up to $80 per person with all the add ons, but we opted for just Graceland and his auto collection.
We were staying at the Graceland RV Park, which is right next door to the Graceland Plaza. We walked over to catch our 9:30am shuttle to Graceland. We were issued an Ipad and headset. John Stamos was the narrator. As you walked through each room, you listened to stories about Elvis from John or sometimes Lisa Marie or Priscilla with his music always in the background. The rooms were exactly like they were when Elvis was alive. We only saw the public areas such as the kitchen, dining room, living room, game room, etc. His private quarters on the second floor are not open to the public. We were all moved by the experience. One thing we learned was that Elvis had a twin brother who was still born. Can you imagine if there were two Presleys?
After we finished touring, it was around 12pm. Next stop was Beale Street. We parked down by the river and walked down to Beale Street. There happens to be a Hard Rock Cafe there, too. Score!
Since we didn't make it to BB King's Club for dinner last night, we were going to have lunch there. The McDaniel Band was playing. We were seated on the second level overlooking the stage. Our feet were tapping even before we sat down. We munched on crawfish popper appetizers listening to "Dock of the the Bay". The food was, again, fantastic. Especially, the Yazoo Catfish Creole from the looks of Bob's plate. He ate every bit. Just before we were going to boogey on out, this lady who must have been in her 80's felt the music and got up and "jiggled her wiggle". We jiggled our wiggle on out the door.
On the weekends, they block off Beale Street so that is is a pedestrian walkway. There were musicians playing here and there. Several young men were throwing their bodies into the air with flips and tumbles entertaining the crowds...and passing buckets. It was worth every penny we put in the bucket. This is a fun happy place and you will find yourself steppin' to the beat with a smile on your face.
We got back to camp in time for Bob to catch a football game while he napped.
We met up with Walt and Barb for cards at 5:30pm and then took a break before dinner so that Bob could watch the start of the Stanford/Notre Dame game. We watched Stanford implod while we ate. At least the dinner was a winner...Walt served up a delicious chicken piccata dish.
Tomorrow, we head for Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas.
