We had a great time in Nashville. But now we were on our way to see where the King called home, Memphis TN. We were on the road around 8am. As soon as we left the Nashville vicinity, it started to rain and it never stopped until we arrived at the Graceland RV Park.
Today, was not Walter's Day. This was a three FUBAR day for Walter.
First FUBAR - He ran out of fuel in the middle of HWY 40. Lucky for him he was able to coast to the middle oasis of traffic merging onto HWY 40. We were behind Walter and got stuck behind a few huge semi trucks. We saw Walt parked with his flashers going and we thought how thoughtful of Walter to wait for us. I radioed Walter that we were approaching to go ahead and pull out and take the lead. He was not pulling out. I tell Walter to go. As we approached, Walter radioed back, "Go on ahead, I think I ran out of fuel." Let me back up, we called early on to check if he wanted to stop to refuel. No, he says he has enough fuel. According to his fuel monitor, he had enough fuel to go at least 100 miles. Well, it was off by 30 miles. Fortunately, he keeps a can with extra fuel in his truck. A lesson he learned the hard way in 2014 when we toured the northern states. Ask him about it sometime. Luckily, the Beast started up and they were back on the road.
Second FUBAR: Walt and Barb pulled into their site. Got everything leveled and disconnected the trailer from the Beast. They went to connect power...the cord wouldn't reach. So they had to re-connect the trailer, remove the blocks, and move 6 inches so the cord would reach the outlet. Then re-level the unit and re-disconnect the trailer.
Third FUBAR: There were several movies out that we wanted to see. It was a dreary day. A perfect day to go to an afternoon movie. After fueling, we drove 9 miles to the Malco Movie Theatre to watch "The Accountant". We really enjoyed it. If you like high body counts, this is a movie for you. Anyway, back to Walter. When he got in the Beast after the movie, he noticed that the middle console was ajar, the keys to the trailer were hanging over the side of the console, and $100 was missing from the middle console. He couln't remember if he locked the Beast.
We had planned to drive down to Beale Street and have dinner at BB Kings Club, but in light of the day Walter was having, we decided to eat closer to our camp..playing it safe. We ate at Marlowe's. This restaurant is filled with Elvis memorablia and is rated number one on TripAdvisor. Not only was the food exceptional, but the staff, customers, and the band added to the charm. We met Clint, a local, that eats there on a regular basis. He and Bob struck up a conversation and shared stories about their time in the Marines. Then, there was Miley, a waitress, who heard we were from California. She grew up in Bakersfield CA, but her adopted mother brought her to Memphis. She has been here ever since, but would like to return to California. Just before we were leaving at 9:15pm, band members were coming in. It was going to be a lively Friday night at Marlowe's. We planned on staying and listening, but the band was getting a slow start. At 10pm, both boys were nodding off, so we thought best to call it a night. Didn't hear the music, but I can only imagine the fun everyone was having. We just have to dream about it.
Tomorrow, we visit Graceland and boogie down Beale Street.
