It was a beautiful warm morning when we left Joshua Tree Lake RV Resort via the PAVED road..we headed east on HWY 62...passed through Twenty Palms, which was the last fueling oasis for 120 miles. Walt checked his fuel level BEFORE he saw the sign that warned of "no fuel for 120 miles...too late. It was deja vu for Walt. He recalled the royal fubar of our Northern Trip in 2014, when he thought he had enough diesel to get him to Cody Wyoming. He was 20 miles short in his calculations. I won't go into the details, but he reluctantly bought dinner that night. So, when we got to the intersection at Desert Center and HWY 10, he thought it wise to make a slight detour to Chiriaco Summit (an extra 28 miles) to fuel up. Wise decision. If we had more time, the General Patton Museum looked like it would have been very interesting. BTW, the stretch on 62 has very limited cell coverage...don't breakdown. We stopped in Quartzsite for lunch at the local Burger King, but found a haven for Jerkey Lovers...Daniel's Best Jerkey. Free samples and other fun foods.
We made it to the Sundace 1 RV Resort in Casa Grande approximately 4:30pm. Dennis, the Summer Host, met us. This resort is a HUGE (700) sites for Snow Birds. Since we arrived pre-season, we basically have the resort to ourselves. For first timers, we got a special 3 nights for the price of 2!!
First thing on our agenda...The Pool! With the average temperature during day of 105 we wanted water. After a cooling dunk and a session of pusating jets in the hot tub, we were ready for a few hands of Shanghai Rummy...Then, dinner at Mi Amigo Ricardo, a local family owned Mexican Restaurant. Food was good and service was impeccable.
Of course, we had to finish off the evening with a bowl of ice cream from the Cold Stone Creamery...A perfect ending to a long day of travel.
