What an interesting place Berlin is yesterday we went and visited check point Charlie this is where one of the checkpoints on the wall use to be to get in and out if east and west Germany. The old check point has been take away and a fake one with fake soldiers is there now for the tourist and the real one is in a museum. There is parts of the wall still around they have been chopped into sections and some have been painted. We did a three hour walking tour which went over all over and we heard all about the Cold War and the hollicoust. We saw a section of wall that's still in its original place and there is a museum on the other side. We visited two memorials one for the Jews and one for terrorism. We sore lots if church's and museums, it was good tour except it was so hot Berlin was having a heat wave and it topped 38 degrees plus. We drank so much water and bought so much water ( €10) as there was no free water taps any where. We were glad to get home and have a shower, we then headed out for dinner I had beef goulash a German dish which was delicious and Brett had slow roasted pork also delicious as I tried it, they didn't have eftpos facilities which is so stupid, not every where has it like at home and the closest ATM was brocken so Brett had to go find one which was about 10-15 mins away the lady felt bad so she gave me a free beer and when Brett returned all hot and bothered because it we still 31 degrees at 9.30 she gave us another 2 beers = winning.
Today we woke to find it raining it was the first day of rain we have had for the whole trip, we headed back to where the wall is and the museum was, we stayed there for a while reading and looking at all the pictures about the hollicoust and world war 2. It makes me feel so sad about the hollicoust and what happened to all those people and how one man made it all happen. We went to go to another museum but it was closed as it was Monday. We headed home past some souvenir shops to buy a few goodies, there is traffic light man here who is quite unique called the ampleman there is souvenir shops just for him and he is on every thing, i liked him a lot that i bought a shirt with him on it. He is also well know as when Germany was split into east and west each side had there own traffic light man and when the wall was take down they were going to standardise the traffic man to the boring ones we all have but people petitioned to keep him and they one. So now it's a way of knowing if you where in east Berlin or West Berlin, we first spotted the ample man in Dresden, I will upload some photos.
Also today we found a Aussie shop which is about 200metres from where we are staying. We had to go in to have a look they had every thing Aussie in there from vegemite, XXXX, bundy rum and violate crumble bars. When we where on the yacht trip we were trying up explain to the Swedish boys and our skipper about stubby coolers and how useful they are and how we really needed them here as it was so hot but no one sold them in Croatia or any where around Europe, we promised the Swedes that we would send them one. So we got excited today to find Aussie stubby coolers, as we have decided go to Sweden to visit the boys and we thought Aussie stubby coolers would be a great gift.
