Today we bussed from New York City to Philadelphia. When we got to the city the first thing we did was pose in front of the LOVE statue, a tradition for tourists and locals in Philadelphia. Next we went to Reading Terminal Market for lunch. At Reading there were many Amish stands and food places that sold things like food, candy, clothes, and books. They were all really nice to us and it was some of the best service I had ever received. I enjoyed talking with them after all of the people who were in a hurry and sort of rude in New York. If felt like we were back in Oklahoma. After about an hour in Reading Market we walked around the town a little looking at the architecture of buildings and the modern art sculptures around. Philadelphia has the most sculptures and murals of any city in the U.S. We also looked for free mason symbols, which we found at places like a church and a statue of Ben Franklin. I did not know that there was so much history involving Philadelphia and the free masons until I actually saw all of the little symbols. Our textbook from history class didn't make it seem like Masons were important, so seeing it in real life showed it was very important. Next we went and saw the Liberty Bell and learned its history. Then we went to Independence Hall, where the U.S constitution was signed. This was the first time I had ever been to Independence Hall. There was supposed to be actors that would draft us into the colonial army, but they weren't working that day, which was disappointing. We took a guided tour of the hall, and the guide was very helpful and informative. After going to Constitution Hall we went to a mall for a quick souvenir stop, where the workers there weren't as kind as at Reading Market, but there was still good service. Finally we went back onto the bus and rode to our next hotel that was close to Washington D.C. I had a really great day today and I hope I can visit Philadelphia again someday.
