MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Wanaka, as much as it is a lovely little town, was a bit of a washout. It rained, and rained, and then rained a bit more. Fortunately, we had treated ourselves to a posh campsite, complete with sauna and spa.
After our Skydive was cancelled, we decide a lazy day is in order. We did make it to the cinema which had sofas and amazing half time homemade cookies. However, we chose to watch possibly one of the worst films that I have ever seen. Expecting a comedy, it was more of a documentary on lesbian country singing NZ legends, the Topp Twins. Random is not the word. In fact, I'm not sure there is really a word for it. Thank goodness for the cookies.
After this experience, the only thing left to do was start on the booze. Couple of bottles of wine in the spa, always a good move, and then into town, where amongst other things, we met hitch hiker #2, Brent from California. Somewhat inebriated, and suffering from the cold, we decide that sleeping in the camp kitchen was a great idea, where I promptly threw up in the sink. Not really an issue until the morning when people came in wanting to make their breakfast! What? It was my birthday!!!
Probably a good thing that our Skydive was cancelled for a second day running due to bad weather. We took a trip to Puzzling World, where we devoured 2 rounds of toasted sandwiches each, got frustrated with loads of wooden puzzles, and took a walk around the many illusions. This trip is not recommended with a hangover! The randomly slanting rooms and crazy patterns on the walls just made me feel dizzy.
And so we headed to pick up Brent and continue our journey.
