Given our track record, it was at this point in the journey that we decided to see how many freebies we could get, and only ten minutes down the road we had we had our first result. Buller Gorge Swingbridge. With just $2 each in our pockets (Sean had assured us that $2 was the entry fee), we rocked up at the desk. The guy was kind enough to let us off the usual $5 fee, and we posed as children for the day. We did the obligatory walk across NZs longest swing bridge, a random bushwalk to see the fault line from the 1929 earthquake and then another deal landed in our lap. Two for one across the flying fox - not convinced that this was a great deal, we declined, citing lack of budget as our excuse, to which the guy said 'Go on then, get on, I'll send you over for free'. The freebies didn't end here, and the photos/video were burnt to a little disk for us for free. On this note, thanks Clint and Grant!! We think it must be our smiley, happy nature, that prompts such generosity.
On route to Hokitika we stopped only for the Seal Colony at Tauranga Bay. THere were loads of seals, and they sounded quite cute, yet in photos they still look like black blobs. Pancake Rocks next at Punakaiki - was interesting but after Great Ocean Rd was not spectacular. Tonight we camped in a carpark by the beach - complete with public toilet. Testing our willpower, we were also overlooking a pub, but we stuck firmly to our pasta, cup of tea and DVD.
