Searched unsuccessfully for laundromat. Gave up and back to hand-washing
Took ferry to El Puerto de Santa Maria. The Castle was closed and so was the Bullring. Decided to have a couple of cervesas waiting for a sherry bodega to open. Went along at time listed in the LP It was open but not for tours! Stupid town, nothing bloody open! Only consolation was there were loads of sports bikes around for Chris to look at. Tried asking a policeman what the dealio was and gathered there was some big race on nearby. Googled it and turns out the Spanish MotoGP race is on in nearby Jerez de la Frontera.
Got ferry back. Was dinner time (well nearly). Got wine and beer in main sq then headed for flamenco place listed in LP - Taberna de Marque Cadiz. While having beer music was turned off as religious procession went past with giant silver cross, people walking behind with long candles then giant coffin type thing with statue of Jesus on it! Was told by guy in bar who could speak English is something to do with pre-celebrations for Easter.
Had couple more drinks waiting for flamenco show to start. Thought was going to be dancing but turned out to be 1 male flamenco guitarist and a singer (male). Bar was quite full by this stage and got impression these guys are very popular with the locals so is not just a show for tourists. Locals seemed to know few of the songs and really got into it clapping along and stamping feet etc.
Then this old guy turned up who alot of people seemed to know. At first we thought he was just a drunk regular as he was kind of drawing attention to himself pretending to knock into a suit of armour that was near the stage but we think he was part of the show as he started telling a story accompanied by the guitarist, either that or the locals (and the band) are just very accommodating to their elders!
Stayed for couple of sets and at end couple of locals standing near us got chatting, well chatting as much as you can with our non-existent Spanish and their basic English. There was an older lady with them who had been really getting into the music and stamping her feet and moving her hands around in flamenco moves. She tried to get me to do it. I tried to copy her but had no idea what I was doing. She seemed pleased though and gave me a hug and kiss on both cheeks! Was a really nice evening, felt very authentically Spanish. Our first decent late night out. Got back to hotel about 2am!

John-Paul and Bea I love reading the stories and I saw some familiar places. Glad to see that the weather is allowing some time at the beach. Enjoy the rest of your time and looking forward to hear more.
