Caroline's World Tour
Hello again from sweaty Paraty!
We are now officially the hottest we have ever been - am having fond flashbacks of freezing England! Its a really nice town, but sooooo hot! Apparently it was 38 degrees yesterday, and it must be about 100% humidity. We have to have all the windows and doors closed to prevent the bugs that are feasting upon us from getting in, so hardly slept a wink last night, although that may also have been partly due to the slightly strange organisation of the slats under my bed - they overlap and have been stapled together - yes, it is as comfy as it sounds! If I sleep on my left side, pressed up against the wall and don't move I'm more or less ok! Am having yet more fond flashbacks of the affectionately titled death-bed in Rio - my top bunk bed that was a good six feet off the ground with no barriers to a crashing drop to the floor in the middle of the night...... By the end of this trip I'll be able to sleep standing on my head!
Went out last night - our French friend Helene introduced us to her Brazilian friend Nei and he took us to a very nice, very cheap restaurant, and then on to the town's main square. Apparently this is mobbed at the weekend, but I think Monday wasn't really its best night! Was so nice to just be able to sit out and relax though. We've stuck to relaxing, and haven't been doing much today. Interesting experience at lunch where poor Sarah ate what she thought was cous-cous but in her words "tasted like you expect fish food to taste" but thats probably been the most exciting part of the day! Planning to do the boat tour tomorrow - a day trip to a few of the 65 islands and 300 beaches surrounding this area. Am already fantasising about the sea breeeze........
