Taganga is a cool fishing village that has also got some lovely beaches as well as a good bar scene and is now very popular with backpackers. When we first arrived here we rented a little appartment for 3 nights with 3 others (Kyle from Scotland, and Charlotte and Marc from France) we even had a young pussycat to cuddle. We had a little house party one night and sat outside our appt drinking rum and taking in the vibe of the local community. Its about 35 degrees in the day and around 25 degrees at night, so sitting outside your house is very much the norm. The locals also love to have huge speakers facing out on to the street with music blaring. It seems the louder you play you music the better. At night there´s is a crazy wind that blows. You can set your watch to it, as soon as the sun goes down the wind come out in full force and then when the sun come back up its gone. However, without it, we`d be too hot, so its a welcome relief from the heat.
I met 2 lovely Czech girls, Kamila who lives in London, and her cousin Jana, who lives in Brighton! Yay! Finally we met someone from Brighton.
After our trip to Tayrona we came back here and stayed in a hostel called Moramar. Its run by this cute old couple who really make you feel welcome. They have a parot and always greet you by name and chat away to you. We made the mistake of staying up on the 3rd floor and at night I would get woken up the wind howling and thinking the windows were going to crash in, like i said before the wind here is crazy.
After coming back from the Lost City trek we had a few nights out with the guys from the trek. Sensations is a bar/disco that is open air overlooking the beach. Its a cool spot, watching the palms blow in the wind, the stars above and the locals bumping and grinding to Salsa and other Latino tunes. The police here are very corrupt and love to try to bust people so that they can fine them. When in the club the music was turned off and about 6 policemen came in and were asking peope for ID. All seemd a bit pointless, but I guess they're just making their presence felt. Anyway, it was a great night and we got to watch our mates from the trek (Pale and Tyler) "penetrating" the dance floor with their Lion Dance. Bless the Great Danes.
I also finally plucked up the courage to go diving. It was the first time in 6yrs and i was nervous when i first went overboard as the last time I dived it was a bad exp and plus it´d been ages so I was scared I wld forget stuff. But the guy who took me was the sweetest guy and made me feel so at ease and kept checking I was OK. And to make things better, I was pleasantly surprised with how in good shape the corals were, how they hadn´t been damaged too much. Also there was a great variety of marine life, so i was a very happy bunny. Having already done 22 dives all across Asia, Oz, Philippeans, Eygpt etc, I had been quite spoilt so wasn´t holding out too much hope for being impressed here, but i was....Yay.
On our last Saturday in Taganga we met 2 cool Kiwis (Debs and Oli). We went out with them for dinner and shared a big bottle of rum and then on to a bar overlooking the bay (Mirador) and then onto an after party at a private beach. We watched the sun rise on the beach and finally went to bed by about 7.Was fun fun fun.
