After leaving Carpurgana at 7am we finally arrived in Cartagena at midnight. After spending 5 days in such a very basic, undeveloped beach village it was a lovely change to be in such a cool, modern, well kept colonial town. It´s a rich mans playground, with lots of lovely bars, restuarants and shops and i got to eat the best food i´ve had since being in Colombia. It was a crepe from a chain called Crepes and Waffles. It was so good to have a bowl of fresh salad and a crepe stufed with mushrooms and cheese. Delish. I´m definately over the fish and rice, it seems the Colombian menu is very limited and uncreative, so i was like a little girl at xmas when i saw the menu at Crepes and Waffles.
Our 1st night out we were celebrating Stus bday and we met some lovely Colombian guys who were there for a long weekend. We were in this shop that also sells alcohol and we having a few beers there and they gave us lots of whiskey. We then went to a chic Sushi bar, which was Stus first experience of eating proper sushi and he loved it. After that we went to this square where they play music videos projected on to a wall and people sit aroud drinking and chatting. That finished at midnight so we went and stood outside a cool bar called Havanas that has a live Cuban Salsa band. You easily hear the music as the bar has no windows, so there are lots of people dancing and drinking in the streets.
The next night the Colombian guys took me and a friend out dancing to a very cool chic club, and paid for everything. Bless them, such sweet guys. Stu was still feeling too ropey from the night before to come out. I finally dragged myself away at 6:30, then had to catch the bus 5 hourr later. Never before have i been so grateful to sit on an air conditioned bus. That day was a scorcher, Í´m not sure how i wld´ve coped otherwise.
