Kelly, Jane and our new, non annoying, Israeli friend Sela, hired a car and headed to the lake district. We drove for 5hrs along gravel, bendy roads, full of pot holes.Sela had a giant bag of cookies that he offered to us every half hour, but eventually we stopped by a lake for lunch, whilst it began to snow. Stu befriended some little lambs and personally i think he was secretly trying to catch one to eat later....he really is a good veggie!
Many cookies and beautiful mountains and lakes later we arrived at previously quiet hostel. We opened a 1.5litre bottle of wine and got the receptionist to put on some of our fav tunes. We then drank, dance and sang along to "Tam, tam, tam, is on my side" by the Stones. We went for dinner and had the best steak to date before heading back to the hostal to befriend the Argie and Peruvian guys that were staying there. The Argie took such a liking to Kelly that after teaching her how to dance to Raggaton, he asked her if she thought he had "a nice bon bon". Which translates as a nice bum.You gotta love to Argie`s forward talking ways.
Day 2 the sun shone and it was lovely and warm. Hurrah! We drove to another pretty lake and onto a gorgeous waterfall. Then sang songs rather unharmoniously all the way back to Bariloche and Pudu hostal, whose residents I´m sure had been missing our Stones renditions....
Sadly, the next day we had to say goodbye to Kelly and Sela and to fill the voic we headed to a place National Geographic has listed as 1 of its top 10 viewpoints. After 25minutes up a steep climb we were greeted by what must be the most impressive views of our life. As far as the eye could see were lakes and mountains ad lush green trees. The sun shone, the sky was a deep rich blue andhe sublime beauty and contrast of colours made the 55hr journey to Bariloche all worth it.To add to the delight there was a cute cafe with the mostscrumptious display of cakes. I`m not sure which got me more overwhelmed, the cakes or the view. We shared a GIANT piece of chocolate cake whilst drinking tea and looking out at the wonderful scenery. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon.
