The temperature in Salta was 40 degrees and it didn`t cool down much at night. It was hard to sleep or find the energy to do much in thar heat. We set off further north to Jujuy. A rather non descript dusty and hot town, but worth mentioning because it gives you a real feel of how the average North Argentinian lives. It also has the most indigenous feel and the most indigenous looking people of any other city we`d been too.
From here we could easily get to Purmamarca. This tiny village sits under the celebrated Cerro de los Siete Colores (hill of 7 colours). A spectacular and jagged formation resembling the marzipan fantasy of a meglomaniac pastry chef. The village is postcard pretty, with a plaza surrounded by markets stalls selling lama wool clothing and other Bolivian style artifacts.
