Parked in a less than savoury place on the road. Dirt and dusty. Once again the crows woke us at 5.45 so we left the campsite at 7.00am hoping to beat the heat of the day.
Well i thought this trip could not get any better but today we have visited Purnululu ( Bungle Bungles) they are just fantastic. The 53km dirt corugated road in to the Bungle Bungles just about does you in then out of the blue up pops these red and black striped domes.
We decided to do the south face first as we thought it might be the only one we were capable of.
We did the Cathedral Gorge walk and that is something to behold, a huge ampitheatre set in under the rocks with a pool beneath reflecting the rocks. The path included a riverbed to walk in, was all river stones and gibbers. Not to arduous but you needed to look at your feet. the domes are interesting as they are striped and the black stripe looks like black tiles or burnt pork crackling.
We then drove around to the northern side and walked into Echidna Chasm. Once again you walk in along a river bed lined with Palms and Pandanus . Beauitful, and then you pass into a slit in the rocks that when the sun hits it is bright red, it is almost closed over in some places but then opens up again. Stunning and we were there mid day so we had the sun lighting up the chasm.
All in all a fantastic day.
On the long treck back out to the caravan park a little voice was heard from the Back seat "are we there yet"
The 53km took us nearly 2 hours on the wayback. Mr B tried to do 60kmp but it fwlt like he was speeding as the roads are so bad. Broke the radio aerial got hit by too many trees and in the end it just fell off.
Mr B sleeping off the big walk, and driving like a racing driver on dirt road exhausted him.
Woo Hoo happy hour here we come.
Decide to make a run for the coast, we are all sick of the bull dust and dirt, it gets in eveywhere.
