After leaving Changmai for another sleeper train to Bangkok... (another cold one... lights left on in the train..eveyone getting into their sleeping bag liner and some of us resorting to wearing our hoodies too!!) we finally arrived- the day of Halloween!!
In Bangkok me adn sio went to the centre world complex for some western food (ever now and again the thought of more noodles and rice DOESNT exite me lol) and finally get her cash cards...ID...etc...everything that was lost/ stolen since Shanghai in our first wk in China (as a result we have visited Embassys... Immigration... Western Unions... all the things open to you as "a foreigner" - lucky us)... when we fianally got bk to our hotel (the trang) -2 hours from leaving the centre (the taxi driver got confused with directions and was f'in annoying...not as friendly as the usual Thais!!) we had a shopping trip (spent a fortune - but for a good cause) we met our new tour leader for south thailand.
The evening then became everful as we were taken to " one of the best seafood places in town" (where I had the more expensive average meal of my life...as a food-critic wanna-be I would be giving this place 4/10 to be generous... if you ask for shrimp on pineapple rice and u get 2 battered strimp in boiled rice in a pinepple...with no pineapplr chunks then what you doing ...seriously absolutely crap!)... another girl got rash - allergic to seafood and then we went to a fun fair adn watched some of the light festival lantens being set off... all very civilised.
To then celebrate Halloween half of us went bar hopping down Ko San road in costumes to enjoy the atmoshpere (which is where most of Bangkok seemed to ve with all the ladyboys and tourists arouns)! It was an ace night though... 3 of us were dressed as Thai boxers - the shorts are cool - and at 5am I went back to the hotel (to find Siobhan already passed out on her bed... I checked she was still breathing as she had already got herself in the recovery position before I went to bed!)
...On sunday I was well impressed with myself as I and only half the group managed to drag ourselves outta bed for the Grand Palace tour at 9am - what a stuggle!! We also saw the Emerald Budda... mmm they were nice but after seeing it all I think the lyin would have been a better option (wouldnt recommend it as "the thing to do" like the brochures say)...
Spent the rest of the day chilling - getting a FISH PEDICURE; feet in a tank with fish nibbling on your toes... it was freaky and after "the killer minute" (as the lady told us... which took me about 5 minutes the fish feet a little tiggley but sooo relaxing! My feet were so soft after - will look in to doing that again - BLISS!
...then to another sleeper train (so bored of them now) ... I dread them everytime but they arent too bad once your on them (like dog walking... you dread it til you get to the park) and it was only a short 11hour journey (my shortest train one so far)!
...We were all tired waiting at the train station so went to wake up with some dinner... no joke though... due to the fact they were lacking room we were sat out on the road (between a parked van and food truck - photographic evidence to prove it) eeeew while the smoke fumes were puring in our face we were chomping down on some sweet and sour - classy!
