Mt Rushmore / Crazy horse / Custer State Park - South Dakota
Custer State Park was next on our planned route, but the sods wanted to charge us $15 to enter, plus all the campsites were full (just bad karma all round) so we decided to push on through the park and found the perfect camp site near the town of Custer. We found ourselves quite nicely positioned to cover some major attractions. Woke up at normal time, and headed for the 4 old dudes on a rock. Again, another spectacular sight, and very tastefully done for such a big tourist attraction (unlike Walldrug). Later that day, we finally buckled and gave the b******s the $15 entrance fee - so glad we did cos we drove along the jaw-droppingly gorgeous Needles highway. Windy, curvy roads, passing through tunnels in rocks with views to die for.
Tucker was having serious wildlife withdrawals, so we hit the aptly named "wildlife loop" for a sunset booze cruise and Bison hunt. And Bison we saw….so close that Buffy opened her door, snapping away without having to zoom in. The next morning, we packed up from our gorgeous camp site in the forest to see the last attraction in the area, Crazy Horse Memorial, but again the fekkers wanted too much money to see it, so we did a fly by instead! Has to be said tho, not much has been done since the last time Morrow saw it 18yrs ago, so no loss there! Yellowstone was calling….
