It has been a while since i´ve updated this sight so apologies for that! I am going to get my act together and keep it up from now!
We arrived into Lima airport after a 14 hour flight down from Miami. We were staying in Mira Flores which was just outside and seemed like a nice area. Lima itself neither of us were impressed with. The city seemed really run down but everywhere else in Peru we loved.
We were only in Peru for 9 days, 7 of which were taken up by the Lares Trek (Inca Trail). We met what we thought was out group early on in the evening, 8 non-English speaking Spanish ladies aged from 50 upwards. As you can imagine we weren´t too thrilled but eventually realised we had the wrong gorup! It turned out we were really lucky and were in a group where everyone was really cool and got on great.
We flew to Cusco on the Saturday and on the Sunday visited the Sacred Valley before staying in another hotel that night. It wasn´t until the Monday that the actual trecking began. It started at the hot springs at Ollantamba. We walked for 4 hours on the first day and I got quite burnt. We had been told that it was going to rain all the way round so were ready with out waterproofs and the sun didn´t stop shining all day!
The next day we set off at 7am and trecked for 8 hours, 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening. It was really sunny for most of the day but rained later in the evening. It had been snowing the night before so the mountains were snow capped with the sun gleaming off, it was quite an amazing sight!
The final day was the decent from our camping spot at 4200 feet. A few people had got quite bad altitiude sickness, me and Jamie were both ok for the majority of it which was fortunate. That night we stayed in a hotel and went to some more hot springs. This time we actually went in and they were really nice.
Next day was the reason we went on the trip in the first place.......Macha Pichu. Me and a friend set off at 4.30am to climb the mountain, about 1000 steps after a few beers the night before so it was very hard work! We arrived and met up with everyone else who got the bus. We all met in there at 6am and had a tpur pof the place. It was amazing and up to that point by far the best thing we had seen. It was exactly like you see on the postcards, was upsetting when we had to leave.
Next update will be on Brazil shortly!!!!!!
