Cost 20 Dollars to NY from DC on the megabus…bargain!! We had booked the Central Park youth Hostel as it was the cheapest we could find. It was uptown on 103rd street and Broadway. Again first impression was hideous as at when we arrived at 9pm there were 8 people already asleep. We made a great impression with them…turning the lights on and making lots of noise.
Snowed most of the next day, although we got down to Times Square and Madison Square Garden and almost saw a NY Rangers game (Ice Hockey - Awesome!!!) Cheapest meal to date has been Maccarone - serves 6 for 59 cents! Next day we hit Central Park which looked class in the snow, all the lakes and reservoir were frozen and the kids were skating on the ice rink. Later we headed up the Empire State Building and timed it perfectly as we say NYC in the light, at sunset and at night when all the city was lit up…think you will agree the photos are immense. That night we met a couple of South Africans and showed them how to play pool. They taught us a new game called Cut throat which we played for the next few nights. Same night we had to put up with a crazy annoying American lady staying at the hostel who wasn't sober for 3 days.
Thursday was a late start…we took the subway over to Brooklyn and walked back over the amazing Brooklyn bridge into Manhattan. The view of NYC was quality!!! Visited Ground Zero that day along with China Town. On the last day we took the free Staten Island ferry to the Statue of Liberty, then went shopping and blew some dollars. We became friendly with Jose - a Chilean who has offered to put us up in Santiago. That's Brazil and Chile we have covered…just looking for mates in Peru and Argentina and we have South America sorted!!!
