Our last island to visit was Koh Pangan - The home of the Full moon party. We were really expecting a mad house full of drunk backpackers but instead we found this island to be the most relaxing of them all. The island was almost like a ghost town. Im assuming it's the time of year we came!
The beaches are beautiful, some modernisation but I think it is still very remote. With no airport and you can get really cheap beach front bungalows intended for hammock hanging and simple living. We didnt stay on the beach but only a five minute walk. Our place was Pink, purple and covered in playboys. It wasn't our first choice but we got a double bed for under $5 each. It was clean and tidy and even had aircon. It was such a bargain! The best thing about thailand is their fresh fruit. For $1 or sometimes less, you can get an amazing fruit smoothie or juice. They have become part of our daily diet and on Koh Pangan there were hundreds of fruit stalls.
Because of our timing we missed the Full moon party and the half moon party so we managed to come across a black moon party!!? Of course this is the time of the month where there is no moon so on Koh Pangan they
celebrate it with a party. The celebrate everything with a party. They have jungle parties, pool parties, beach parties, fire parties and even foam parties. Half of what makes these parties is the alcohol they supply in buckets. For $6 you can get a bucket filled of whatever you like but usually a 250ml liqour and redbull. Their redbull is also not like our redbull.. I think its a straight concentrate giving you 5x more energy than normal. We went to a pool party and to a black moon party, both with everyone having the time of their lives drinking these buckets. They are fun but just a big boozefest.
We spent most of our time at the beach, eating, sunbathing or lying in the water. It is incredibly peaceful during the day also great fun at night with fire dancers and local entertainment.
Our next stop is bangkok and to get here we have to catch a ferry for 5 hours back to the mainland and an overnight bus for
8 hours to bangkok city... To be continued.
