Arriving in Singapore was very exciting! We flew in, asked a few local Singaporeans for some help and jumped on the MRT (mass rapid transport) and transferred straight to our hostel. We stayed at the WOW hostel in an 8 Bed dorm. It was cheap, clean and came with free breakfast. We explored many of the cities icons and straight away we noticed both the city and the people were thoroughly modernised. The majority of the population lived in small apartments in huge concrete buildings. I straight away noticed the creative way of drying clothes - 15 stories high on a wooden stick hanging out their bedroom windows. Seeing all of Singapore was not a problem. We trained into Clarke quay until realising it was more of a night scene, and a lovely 72year old man picked us up on his 2 wheeler + side car bicycle and took us to Chinatown for $4. He was kind and genuine and showed us old Singapore city along the way. Chinatown was full on! Lucky enough we were dropped right outside a Taylor made suit shop. Just what we wanted! I walked as fast as I could in the opposite direction. The streets of Chinatown are crammed with shops and eateries. The shops mainly consist of the same thing but it is a great place to get a bargain! We came across Thian Hock Keng temple. It was free admission so we covered up and went on in for a good look around. Little India was similar to Chinatown but quite disordered. We managed to get lost trying to find the Sim Lim towers where they have floors and floors of electronics! They sell souvenirs but are more for spices and produce. Singapore Zoo was a highlight from our visit to Singapore! It is without a doubt the best zoo I've been to with so much to see and do. We spent a full day there exploring all the areas and getting up close with the animals. Most of the enclosures were open and the animals were free to go as they please. We went to 3 shows throughout the day and watched feedings of the animals. Alongside the zoo we got a ticket for the night safari. By 7pm that night it was pouring with rain. I didn't expect them to pile in over a thousand people into trams and transport them through the zoo. We of course had the option to get off the tram and walk the walking tracks. Because of the rain nobody did! After the 20minute tram ride we waited 30 minutes for a show. The build-up was huge and the show was very average. Would be Okay for children! Universal studios on Sentosa Island was great! We arrived at the park at 9.30am waiting for the gates to open at 10am. By 10.03am we were first in line on the Battle star gallatica rollercoaster. I was so so scared I had to hold my own hand. But I did it. And every other ride in the park! We watched the waterworld show which was fantastic! William got pulled up onto the stage and was tricked by the men with waterguns and got saturated. We sat in the soak zone of the stadium so by the end of the show we were drenched. By the end of the day it was again pouring with rain. To get home on the monorail we had to line up outside and wait until there was room upstairs due to a massive thunderstorm outside. This is one thing I thought was great throughout Singapore. Everything is so organised and everything is always in order. For the shopping we headed to Orchard road! This is one long road with retail overload. Loads of malls with most shopping centres being 3+ stories high. They have a huge range of shops from Gucci and Louis Vuitton to cotton on and rebel sports. It wasn't the cheapest but awesome to see! Overall Singapore was a 10/10.
