After Bali we decided to travel to the Gilli islands to visit the turquoise tinted irresistible warm water. We caught a speed boat (with 5x 250hp engines) over to gili Trawangan which is the furthest out and had been tagged the party island! With three weekly parties and a large collection of beach bars, its loads of fun! When we arrived we were greeted by the locals trying to help with our bags and provide us with accommodation. We had booked online and checked in to the Tir Na Nog. This small resort was lovely situated on the beach with its own pool, bar and restaurant on the water. After being in Bali we were in love with the serenity that came with no motorised traffic! Just horse and homemade carriages or bicycles. We hired a bicycle and rode right around the island stopping at different areas for a snorkel and a beachfront bungalow for lunch! The water is so clear it's so much fun seeing what you can find. Our second day here we booked a snorkel/Island tour which took us to all three of the gilis on a long tail glass bottom boat and we went to several snorkel spots along the way. We saw turtles and a sea snake. We stopped at Gili Air for lunch which is the closet island to the mainland and has cute bungalows spotted along the beach. A lot of time was spent relaxing by the pool gathering a NZ tan and socialising with other tourists and some of the locals. The locals here were great, always trying to help out! We stayed here for 4 nights and would definitely recommend making the hop from Bali to experience the real paradise!
