The bus journey from Saigon was horribly long and uneventful, so I will move on to our first proper day in Siem Reap. Our first impressions were positive, we loved the place. Clean, lots of cheap eats, trendy places and best of all lots of markets!

We walked around the city wandering into shops and spent a whopping $15 at a pharmacy stocking up on all our necessities before we left South East Asia. We layed around for the afternoon drinking on beanbags in a close by bar. I got a 1 hour massage while william got another drink or two and waited at the bar for me.

Our second day started at 4am by getting a tuktuk to Angkor Wat for sunrise. Angkor Wat is undoubtedly the heart and soul of Cambodia. As we waited in pitch black by the lake waiting for then sun to rise behind Angkor Wat we could not help but feel that the whole event was anti climatic. It did not help that there were clouds and lots of green scaffolding to conserve the temple and we were asked by too many people to come eat breakfast at their stall. In saying that, Angkor wat is still huge and stunning to see.
Angkor Wat is the worlds largest religious structure and after wandering around we moved on to the fortified city of Angkor Thom 10 sq km in size. The day continued with visiting a few other temples, they all were powerful and inspiring. Ta Prohm -in Tomb Raider was amazing because you can see how the roots have taken over the temples. It was a long morning spent walking around and as the day went on it got hotter and we became all templed out! We headed straight back to our hostel for an afternoon nap. A nice feature of our hostel was that it had a swimming pool. Suprisingly it was freezing cold so we couldn't lie around in it all day but it was so nice for a quick dip in the evening.

We went to one of the newer night markets in central siem reap. It had an island bar right in the middle. This is where we set ourselves up for the night. Lucky for me it was half price ladies night which made cocktails $1.50. We got to know the bar staff pretty quickly and tried a variety of different drinks before having a delicious khmer dinner. Pizza =) The market itself wasn't too bad. We explored breifly before spotting a little store with suitcases and bags. I had my eye on 1 suitcase and with williams help I bargained it down and took it home. Goodbye Backpack.

We booked a luxury mini bus for the next day to take us to Phnom Penh. We paid extra to have a bit more leg room. We soon found out that this bus was maybe worse than the big bus and came with an extreme rally driver and we got to have bags shoved under our seats. Anyone who has travelled through cambodia will know that the roads are not the best. Sometimes you will drive along maybe 3km on perfectly tarcealled road and then BOOM all of a sudden it cuts off and your now driving through pot holes and ditches the size of buckets. We knew we were in for some fun. What a relief it was to arrive in Phnom Penh.
