Up at 8am.
Started wandering through Roald Dahl Plass which is next to The Millennium Centre around 9am.
Beautiful sunny day but a cool breeze.
To get to The Doctor Who building you have to walk around the edge of Cardiff Bay.
Let me tell you, this is no hardship.
It is a beautiful setting....all a pedestrian walkway right along the edge of the water.
But about 10 feet above the water.
The view out over the bay on a sunny morning is beautiful.
So I wandered, aimless as a cloud....
..... No, I digress.
But I did wander.
Past the beautiful white, old Norwegian Church set on the water's edge.
This is the ticket that I had booked on line from home.
When I walked in this morning several staff said, "You're back."
(I think I made an impression yesterday.)
Well, what makes everyone stand in a queue, 2 feet from each other, and not talk to each other?
We were all talking by the time I was finished with them.
I think it made it fun...
( Well I enjoyed it....)
And I WAS bubbling over with excitement.
( I would just like to think that I was infectious.)
So the staff and I had another great chat...
And the queue and I had another great chat...
And we were off.
Especially enjoyed it the second time round...took more in.
I have stood in the TARDIS at the console that the 10th Doctor used.
And had photos taken there.
I was pretty chuffed.
And I had such a great time yesterday getting photos taken in front of the green screen...that I did it again today.
This time a lovely girl was taking the photos and we laughed all the way through it again.
Funny photos...but hey, great memories.
The young man taking the photos was working in the shop today.
He also said, "You're back" .... ( I am memorable.)
And he directed me how to get to Ianto's Wall.
More about that in a minute.
Had a lovely lunch at The Blue Box Cafe inside the centre and then headed back along the waterfront, stopping to take lots of photos.
Ianto was a character in the TV show Torchwood.
Cap't Jack is also in Torchwood and most of it was filmed around Cardiff.
Ianto was written out of the show after 3 seasons so his character dies.
(Hope no one was planning on watching it. Just gave the whole game away.)
Anyway, a memorial wall has sprung up, right on the waterfront, where the back door to the Torchwood base was located.
It is covered in notes, flowers, pictures, death threats to the writers... Anything you can think of.
It was such a phenonomin that Cardiff Council at first kept clearing it all away...
But it kept coming back.
So in the spirit of "Can't beat 'em, join 'em" .... There is now a bronze plaque dedicated to
....... ' Ianto Jones...who gave his life in defence of the children of this planet' ....
........ The Management of Mermaid Quay salutes you.....
And then a PS note....explaining that Ianto was a fictional character etc....
Good on them.
Looks great.
So I had a lot of fun checking all that out and recognising locations, etc
Then decided to catch a bus from the Travel Lodge to Cardiff Central.
It was about a mile and a half away...but after 2 buses just drove straight past me...and they were the right buses...I decided to walk.
( I think I must have looked suspicious or something..... Or the staff from The Doctor Who Experience were very quick in spreading the word.)
Anyway, off I trotted...spent a couple of hours checking out the shops and market in Cardiff.
And, just to show those bus drivers a thing or two, I walked back as well.
Beautiful wide, tree lined pedestrian walkway all the way from the bay to the city centre.
Very nice walk.
Bought tea and sat where Cap't Jack sat....and ate it.
All the time watching the colours change on wording on The Millennium Centre.
The sun was setting and with each passing minute the view changed as well.
This is a spectacular building just to look at.
The location is amazing, right on the bay.
And it is the cultural centre for Cardiff.
Opera.
Orchestras
Ballet etc.
Then back to the hotel.
And that's it.
Great day.
Loved every second.
Xxxx
I will add photos to this once I have Internet.
