Did you get that?
I have climbed The Leaning Tower of Pisa!!!
Who thought I couldn't do it?
Doubting Thomas'
( Well, me, actually.)
IT WAS FANTASTIC!
I was really concerned that the nearly 300 steps might be a bit much for me.
It was surprisingly easy.
Aside from the fact that, as you are climbing the circular marble steps, one minute you are leaning 'in', the next minute you are leaning 'out.'
And those hard, white, marble steps are worn where people over all those centuries have walked exactly where I did.
Dad climbed The Leaning Tower of Pisa 30 years ago and I have the most wonderful picture of him up the top.
Last time I was here, I waved to him up the top.
This time, I was up there with him.
Amazing.
Look at that photo of Dad right up the top.
Thirty years ago they relied on you using common sense and not falling off.
Today, we are inside a wire enclosure.
I had to put the camera over the top of the wire to get the photos.
It looks to me like Dad was on the very top level.
We were only allowed to the one below that... The Bell Tower.
It has 7 bells and each has a different note (tone)
Loved it.
The views from up there are incredible.
Looking down over the Basilica and Cathedral was mind blowing.
And Pisa ... just looks beautiful.
Terracotta roofs and views off into the distance.
We only had about 45 minutes all up.
And, all too soon, it was time to go down.
This was a little hair raising.
It's steep.
And that marble gives you no grip at all.
On the ground again ... looking up.
Not so scary now, are you?
Wandered some more.
Then headed for the station.
Caught the 3.54pm.
Arrived Firenze at 5.07.
Caught a taxi to the hotel.
I am a bit tired.
Great, great day.

M Well done Mum!!I'm just catching up on the last few days as I was in Sydney for the weekend!I love to think of you and Gramps up the top of the leaning tower of Pisa together. The whole town would have heard you if you both got the giggles. Did you ring the bell? Accidentally of course.
Andrew Browning I hope youre not singing "ring my bell"
Daryl I reckon Dad was probably up there again with you.
Amanda Hi Carolyn,Congratulations on your Pisa climb!Your photos are amazing and definitely worth the 4 hour wait and 300 steps. Did doctor travel with you to the top? I hope so ;-)Cheers Amanda
