Up at 8.30am
Wonderful breakfast then I walked to the Archaeological Museum....about 4 blocks from here.
Had the most wonderful time.
Just amazing.
Saw the most beautiful bronze statue of a horse and jockey that had been found under the sea, in pieces and put back together again.
Wonderful marble statues everywhere.
Saw the Antikythera Mechanism....fascinating area on that and all the other treasures recovered from that wreck.
The marble statues that fell into the sediment over 2000 years ago...any parts protruding from the sea bottom were eaten by 'marble eating organisms'.....makes for some really strange statues.
( Who knew there were 'marble eating organisms'? )
And there I was worried about Jaws.
I spent 4 hours here....loved it.
Had lunch in a beautiful garden section of the museum surrounded by statues over 2000 years old.
I had a pie...cheese and ham pie....yep Brooke...they manage to put cheese and ham into a pie as well.
And went to the gift shop....
Bought a poster!
Hey girls....bought a poster!
That justifies me carrying that tube all over Europe.
It's not that great a poster either...I think I just bought it so I could put something in the tube!
Couldn't leave the gift shop.
Not that it was that startling, they had heads and busts and pottery galore ....huge ones...
But that wasn't why I couldn't leave.
Nope I was standing looking when I heard an American woman say...
' So, this isn't genuine? '
And the sales lady said 'No.'
So they moved on a bit further and the American lady asked again...
' So, this isn't genuine? '
' No '
So I followed them round and round the shop....same question...same answer.
Best entertainment I've had since we all danced Zorba The Greek.
So funny.
Finally her husband said...' You can't come here and expect to buy the Parthenon.'
And she said....'So I really have to go to a museum to see the genuine article?'
I didn't dare look at the sales lady.
Great to get your phone call, Greg....I was standing out the front of the museum....I under enormous marble columns...in the shade...it's hot.
My aircon wasn't working this morning so I asked one of the cleaning ladies for help.
Now, you have to picture this.
The room has enormous sliding windows...sort of double glazed but with a 6 inch gap in between.
Now the sun hits that full on so, yesterday I put my underwear ( ....you know, the stuff I couldn't dry at the pool...) and sneakers in that gap to dry in there like a hot house.
I had trouble opening that sliding window to put the gear in there so I didn't latch the window shut in case I had to tour the rest of Europe with no underwear.
Anyway......
This morning, before I went to breakfast, I pulled the curtain across so the cleaning lady would not see what I had put in there.
And....you guessed it....once I mentioned to her.....she came straight into my room, hauled the curtain open, full view of my washing....and shut the window.
The aircon clicked on, she smiled at me and left.
All the plans of mice and men, huh?
You may be relieved to know that I did manage to open the window, retrieve my unmentionables, hide them in the case....and bolt for the museum....where no one knew me.
About to go for a swim...it's nearly 5pm here.
Table booked at 8pm.
I'm having the ice cream FIRST this time....
The tour picks me up here at 7am in the lobby and then off for a guided tour of the Acropolis.
Well, it's 7pm now...had a lovely swim and a lay in the sun....
Booked my wake up call for 5.15am
And am back on the rooftop terrace.
Bought the IPad with me this time.
So the sun is shining...and someone is sitting at my table.
Oh well...took the one next door.
Still the same view.
Actually, 4 people are sitting at my table....speaking Greek, I think.
At least they were speaking Greek until The Doctor emerged and was placed on my ( new ) table.
Then, a very eerie silence descended.
Not just at the table next door....but the whole rooftop.
Never to let a good silence get in the way of a photo opportunity....I continued on regardless ...
Conversation finally continued.... In Greek....
...I think I may have been the topic at hand.
So funny.
I was grinning... On purpose...... ( figured they would just think I was a crazy lady and move on. )
Got some fair photos.
Would love to put The Doctor on the railing....but hey, it's an 7 storey drop and there is a breeze.
And if the photo includes the amber liquid in the glass...that's a Greek version of a shot of whiskey .....
Did I mention, I'm in Athens.
Hey, they've left.
Didn't realise I was intimidated...but I must have been...out came the camera again...and The Doctor.
This is fun. No one knows me here.
But they may talk about me for a while!
Hey...gotta eat with somebody !
Had the best time here.
Lovely to have to discover things for yourself.
Didn't venture to far, but the Hoho bus is amazing. You can tour a city and know that you still have a ride home.
Better eat now....
Hey, can you write in the comments guys?
I need emails...
Lots and lots
I am eating my evening meal with a 2 inch plastic toy, after all.
Any interaction would be good.
Thanks

Nomi Hey You!!! How much fun are you having, but I really think you should stop trying to scare the local people - maybe they wanted to be introduced to the Doctor? I'm going home tonight to research marble-eating organisms xoo
Megs Wow Aunty can! Looks like you're having the most amazing time! The history there is incredible, a pinch yourself kind of place! I can't wait to see a montage of The Doctor's adventures! Absolute gold! It's not long until you meet back up with your original tour group, right? You'll have loads of stories to swap! Enjoy the sunshine while you can, summer has departed the UK with a bang! I had to break open the winter coat and scarf today... Xx

Andrew B The Archaeological Museum sounds fascinating, all that history so impressive……………………….and you are there ! Love the washing episode, the things we do – it’s called making the most of it. You’re making good use of the pools - I assume it’s HOT.………………..and don’t let a little Greek conversation get in the way of a photo opportunity with The Doctor !!Hope you discovered lots of interesting and spectacular things on your wander around, even if it’s just something unusual its spectacular, hey you’re in GREECE. Have you settled into the European way of life yet, and eating VERY late and still going at 2.00am ??????? You will soon be with your tour mates again which will be nice, you will have lots of things to talk about. The sunset looks magnificent and YOU were there enjoying every second, creating wonderful memories to share. We took a cake to Georges Mums yesterday for her birthday, well so we thought.
