...I get up in the morning, replace the €2 beers from the minibar with their €0.50 equivalents from the downstairs supermarket and head for my rooftop tour of the cathedral - I almost arrive late but I make it - the views are exquisite
...I say goodbye to Santiago with a nice cup of hot chocolate
...I drive to A Coruña to visit the Tower of Hercules, a 2000 year old Roman lighthouse that is still in use as such!!! Best of all, Monday is free entry. Beautiful
...I continue towards Oviedo and get sleepy so try to find coffee. Then I get pulled over by the police at a gas station exit for a routine check. They check my papers and my car and my trunk and everything else. After that I'm so excited I don't even need coffee.
...I continue to the beautiful Playa Del Silencio, which I am incredibly fortunate to have just for myself on this sunny Easter Monday evening
...on my way to Oviedo I drive through a mountain pass in fog so dense that trafic slows down to 40 kph on the freeway. Wow!
...I arrive in Oviedo and check into a very fancy hotel. The rooms are stylishly decorated and the going rate is €200 per night. I get it for €50 last minute. They are so nice they even give me two key cards so I can keep my stuff charging when I leave the room
...I am hugely impressed by the parking machines in Oviedo. They recognize your plate no. (if you're a resident you don't have to pay) and they don't give change but they keep it as "virtual change" under your plate no, so next time you come to park, you still have that credit to use. Kudos!
...I notice Spanish people like to cycle on sidewalks, surely for fear of crazy drivers. Just like Poland! :)
...I go out to have a traditional dinner and cider - I order a giant cachopo - a sort of a veal cordon bleu filled with serrano ham and good cheese. I barely can eat it.
...the cider pouring is a separate ceremony here: only the waiter can do it, he does it keeping a height difference between the glass and the bottle of about 1m and bravely and confidently pouring it from there. The idea is to get rid of unnecessary bubbles. It looks spectacular. Some guests try it too but usually fail. As a result the floor is all sticky...And as they keep circling the room and refilling my glass, well, I get pretty drunk quickly.
