During the last few days...
...I land in Edinburgh and find out Scottish weather in the supposedly driest month of May is a bit like India in monsoon, only colder
...I learn to appreciate good beans and blood sausage for breakfast, in fact learning it is the only way to eat in this climate
...I am overjoyed to find that the midges in the highlands are not out yet
...I am amazed by how friendly and helpful everyone is and how anyone can understand anything being said with a Scottish accent
...I visit the Isle of Skye and savor its amazing scenery wondering what it must be like when it's not half obscured by a thick wall of drizzle, mist and (yes, sometimes) hail
...I appreciate the almost forgotten convenience of being able to shop until very late
...I learn to drive on the wrong side of the road and enjoy it!
...I have two near-miss encounters with local deer crossing the road
...I appreciate locally brewed beers from Skye, Inverness and Lomond area
...I fail to find Nessie...
...but I do find a lot of distilleries (there's one every mile it would seem) in the Speyside area and want to move to Scotland shortly afterward
...I find the Glenfarclas distillery the most welcoming of them all and the only one I visit that's independent. I also find unfortunately that my tastes in whisky are very expensive indeed. However I will not apologize for falling in love with 16yr old, £190/bottle whisky and neither should you!
