...I do some final walking, miss my last appointment at the clinic and prepare myself mentally for departure. Among other things, for explaining to immigration guys why I overstayed my visa by 4 days exactly.
...I find a delicious Georgian restaurant, which is however so slow I'm almost late to the airport (Sheremetyevo this time and I'm flying with Aeroflot!)
...I talk to a dishevelled, unshaven, scruffy looking guy at the airport at a door that says "Consul". He says I need to go to a bank in the terminal building, pay a fine, come back and give him my passport so he can give me a new exit visa.
...I almost get a heart attack at the bank - Soviet style customer service all over where one lady handles a customer as slowly and lazily as she can while the other two look on, gossip and pick their teeth and the line of customers seethes with anger and frustration. That is only I seethe - the rest are local people and they're full of understanding. Or resignation. Or both.
...I yell at the ladies but because I don't speak the lingo I am quickly put back in my place.
...I pay, go back to the "Consulate", this time they sends another guy who's even scruffier and dirtier to pick up my passport. I hesitate but having no choice...He also demands a printout of my ticket. A grumpy lady at the Aeroflot office gives it to me grudgingly.
...I wait impatiently and finally get my passport with a brand new visa. Whew, that was stressful. No more surprises though, I board the flight without problems. Bye Moscow, hope to see you again!
