...we drive out of Naples to find traffic on Easter as frantic as ever
...we witness a couple of processions consisting of various white clad young people and lots of fire crackers - the Italian Easter celebrations
...on a winding mountain road we spot a dog in the middle of the road, which causes a minor congestion - it won't budge (must be Italian) and it's just sitting there despite motor and horn noise, so cars going in opposite directions take turns to go round it. Eh...
...we drive to the mighty Mount Vesuvius and find that half of Europe had the same idea, which results in difficulty finding a spot
...we climb the volcano paying through the nose for the ticket and marvel at the bad shape some of the younger visitors are in all huffing and puffing. On the rim we observe then gases coming out and eat our chocolate Easter egg
...we don't buy any of the numerous volcanic ash souvenirs on sale, including skulls, Roman helmets and winged penises
...in anticipation of our tomorrow's visit of Pompeii we find a hotel near there. Unfortunately when we arrive there is a problem: despite the booking the hotel is full and the clerk speaks no English. Fortunately together with her boss who also speaks no English they find us another hotel in the village and the staff there do speak English :) Good!
