...we drive to the UPS store where there is a small misunderstanding as to the fees I owe for holding my packages - the UPS want to charge me US$5 per day per shipment. We get into an argument after which I tell them they can send it back and we work out a mutually agreeable solution (me paying much less) and then I collect them and we part ways.
...we drive a lot in this city - to Burbank to Warner Studios to do a tour (where we enjoy the Friends set the most but the whole tour is great! Splurge on a VIP tour if you have the time - it seems it's even more entertaining), to Hollywood walk of fame (where we eat great burritos, see the stars (and discover Harrison Ford has at least two - why??!!!) and palm prints, the Chinese theater, the Dolby Theater, shop for tacky souvenirs, takes millions of photos etc), to the ocean (Santa Monica, where we arrive after dark and are disappointed to see an empty, very dark beach and a suspicious junkie like neighborhood) and then to TacoBell (very Mexican day today) and a late night beer store to get properly drunk by the poolside in our hotel!
...we notice with satisfaction we are allowed to use the carpooling lane (2 people or more per car), which is always noticeably less trafficky. That also brings a scary thought: all these other cars have just the driver in them!
...I see that lanes and entries/exits on the highway and in the city seem very narrow; somethings not right; then a groundbreaking conclusion: it's not the lanes it's the jeep that's so freaking big!!!
...we are frankly amazed by the quantity (not so much quality) of highways and distances in this town - we spent half of our time just driving and we drove fast and luckily didn't experience much of the infamous LA congestion; we see the city as rather soulless, touristically boring, huge, sprawling, bland and tiring; pretty much a nondescript array of different buildings and highways. We will get out quickly tomorrow. Temperature is quite nice in lower 20s at least...
