Our day began with and overcast sky but perfect weather for strolling around the magnificent Butchart Gardens.
The area that the gardens are built was once a limestone quarry which was Jennie Butchart's husbands business from 1902 when the quarry closed in 1914 they were left with a huge empty hole in the ground at their backdoor so she began with a vision and a passion for gardening and set about landscaping the area into a sunken garden transforming it into to something for her family and for visitors for generations to come.
The gardens cover a total of 55 acres there are 900 gardens beds, 26 green houses and a team of 50 full time gardeners to maintain and continue building and developing the gardens.
They are truly magnificent and a source of wonder and inspiration.
