We visited the acropolis of Bergman, the old town of Pergamum of the Revelation.
This acropolis was spectacular, holding the larges outdoor amphitheater built anywhere and the caustics were just magnificent!
At the very top the temple still had several columns standing and many ruins. The outline of these was easy to see what they were, even the alter were many animal sacrifices were made to the gods. Standing in this place you had the sense of what John the Divine wrote about when he wrote about the church living right at the throne if Satan!
The trip to the top was by cable car, about 1000 meters, the wind was blowing a little and the car had a little bit of a sway but not really very much at all. The scenery was magnificent! We were able to see for miles.
On the return trip we stopped at the market place before descending the Acropolis to buy some gifts and chat to some of the locals, a very rewarding time.
We then drive about 5 minutes to the town where we stopped at red hall for a devotional time where we looked again at the letter to this church of Pergamum.
This was the place that the church would have gathered for worship and fellowship. What an inspiring place to stop for devotions!
After this we drove about 40 minutes to our Motel in Dikili, and had a swim in the pool to cool off after this long day.
