Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
We arrived into Kyoto after a blistering ride on bullet train, 500k in 2 hours, very efficient and smooth. Kyoto is a much smaller city, and is less busy and less western than Tokyo. Thankfully a few more sights to see. Yesterday we went to a few temples, which were close by. The first is supposed to be the biggest wooden temple in the world but it was covered due to it been renovated. The second temple was really impressive inside, 1000 gold ornate buddha statues all lined up in rows. However you couldnt take photos, hence the 1 blurred photo.
Today we went to the Golden temple, but you cant go inside it, but it was nice walking around the grounds. We then went onto Nijo castle which has a former palace which we were able to walk round, but again no photos inside. Inside the temples its mainly cold wooden floors and empty rooms with lots of white paper wallls, and some gold paintings. After coming here from Thailand they seem very tame and unstated, plus the people here dont seem very religious so no atmosphere either.
