We set our alarms for 6.15 am as the mini bus was picking us up at 7.30 to take us to the Jetty so that we could get the ferry at 9.30 over to Koh Lipe. This is an island just off the south of Thailand and would be our first stop of our Thai experience. The boat took an hour and half, the perfect opportunity for us to watch two episodes of keeping up with the Kardashians on my iPad. Once the episodes finished and we had no distraction, Masa and I started to feel really sea sick. We went to the back of the boat to use the toilet to find a room with a hole and a bucket, and the floor submerged in brown water. So we decided against that, I didn't need the loo that bad! The boat stopped for a bit once we reached the beach, but the waves were so chopping that it made the whole sea sickness thing ten times worse! We had to get a smaller motor boat to the shore which I was so glad to finally get on. I couldn't wait to get to the shore. It was a beautiful day, the sun was beaming down, with turquoise sea and white sand. The beach was so quiet with hardly anyone on it...ideal! We went through Thai immigration and had our visas stamped. That's was it, we were in! This was quite a monumental moment for us as its the place I'm finishing in, it's the place we are all in for the longest, and it's the place we've spoken and heard the most about. We went in search for somewhere to stay. There was 6 of us, but some how we managed to get split up! It was so hot we ended up getting a motorbike taxi and asking him to take us to a cheap hotel on the beach. He took us to another part of the island called Pattaya beach. We booked a night in a place called the 'Seaside Resort'. The rooms were cute little huts which consisted of a bed and bathroom, opposite each other on sand. Ours was a new room around the back, it was a little walk to reception but hey ho. The room was very basic; just a double bed, fan, air con unit and a bathroom, but what more would we need. The price doubled for the room because we had air con as its so expensive to run in the island. We unpacked and walked down to the beach. As we walked along, we saw the main strip of shops called the 'walkway'. We walked all the way along to get some Thai Baht out of one of the ATMs. There's only 4 on the whole island. After, we walked back towards the beach to drop our laundry off and find a place to eat. We came across a cute little cafe called 'Banana Tree'. We sat and had lunch there, I had a Hawaiian pizza and watermelon juice which was lush! We headed back to the beach to chill for a bit. We saw Sam and Lindsey, two Canadians we met in George Town. It started to get a bit cloudy so I walked back to where the shops were to have a little explore. I tried a thai pancake called a Roti with Nutella for the first time to. It was like a more crispier version of a crepe in a square shape and then cut into pieces, it was quite nice. Later, after more chilling on the beach, we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner. I was ready first so walked down to reception to FaceTime my mum and sister. Once the girls were ready, we met Sam and Lindsey outside their hotel and walked to one of the restaurants they recommended. It was really good. I had a mango and strawberry juice, spring rolls, and chicken and pineapple curry with rice. After, we chatted for a couple of hours about random stuff and then we all felt a bit tired so we headed back to the room for a good nights sleep. Masa is the worlds worst for seeing creatures everywhere that she is scared of. We heard a scream from the bathroom and Masa came running out barely covering herself with a towel. There was a massive cockroach in the bathroom. Cockroaches are the one thing I just can't handle, I hate them! They are basically the definition of a dirty environment as that's the one place they flourish and it makes me feel sick! Sarah was running around the bathroom trying to trap it in a plastic bag and get rid of it! Masa was stood on the bed squealing and I just stood in the corner as far out of the way as possible! How the hell were we going to cope here?! But hey, what a great first day in Thailand!
